James Temple Church Of God In Christ was established as The Second Church Of God In Christ in 1964 by founder, Melvin James. It was purchased for $600.00. In 1967, lumber was purchased from dismantled barracks from Ellington Field fo $90.00. In 1968, the construction was completed and is the edifice that is currently in use. The building was moved off Highway 3 to its current location at 1812 Avenue D. The name of the church was changed to James Temple Church Of God In Christ in 1995.
